Collecting Clothes at Your Wardrobe

wardrobe 5 Collecting Clothes at Your Wardrobe

The closet is clean. Your new things are ready to be put away. Yet you still have bags and bags of unwanted clothes in your home.

What do you do with them? Do you donate them to your favorite charity? Give them away to your friends? Consign them at your favorite resale boutique? Bring them to a vintage clothing or costume shop for them to sell? Put them on eBay (or hand them off to a company that will put them on eBay) and become an Internet retail–auction entrepreneur? Host a house or garage sale?

Or if the item is truly valuable and is representative of a known designer, such as an original Bob Mackie beaded dress from the 1970s or a Balenciaga gown from the 1950s, do you save it and start (or add it to) an existing collection? Don’t fret! Read on to find out which route is right for you.

I learned firsthand about reselling my stuff in college. This helped defray the cost of my shopping, saved me space in my small dorm room, and cleared my social karma of the typical American consumer need for accumulation.
